Pricing and specifications for the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series have been announced ahead of the four-wheel-drive’s launch in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive), with the new LandCruiser up across the range by an average of $9000 compared with the previous model.

Toyota is offering a choice of six variants of the LandCruiser 300 Series, with pricing starting at $89,990 before on-road costs for the entry-level LandCruiser GX, and topping out at $138,790 before on-road costs for the range-topping LandCruiser Sahara ZX.

The Landcruiser GX is followed in the 300 Series line-up by the GXL, VX, Sahara, GR Sport, and finally, the Sahara ZX.

The LandCruiser 300 Series range is powered by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel V6 engine, producing 227kW of power at 4000rpm, and 700Nm of torque from 1600 to 2600rpm.

A 10-speed automatic transmission is mated to a full-time, dual-range four-wheel-drive system. 

Pricing has gone up when compared with the previous 200 Series by an average of $9000, while the new flagship variants are now nearly $15,000 more than the outgoing equivalent.

The all-new LandCruiser GR Sport will sit alongside the Sahara ZX at the top of the range, with pricing for the GR Sport starting at $137,790 before on-road costs.

While the Sahara ZX is designed as a luxury variant – with a larger bumper bar that decreases approach angle from 32 degrees to 24 degrees – the GR Sport has been built for proper off-roading, with Toyota developing the model as a base for competition in the treacherous Dakar Rally. 

The GR Sport is the only Landcruiser to come standard with front and rear differential locks, as well as Toyota’s new e-KDSS, which allows for greater wheel articulation in off-road conditions, while maintaining handling in everyday driving scenarios.

The new version of KDSS uses electronics to control the swaybars, rather than hydraulics in previous iterations.

As a nod to the LandCruiser’s past, the GR Sport also features a gloss-black honeycomb mesh grille with prominent ‘TOYOTA’ letting across the front, black 18-inch alloy wheels, black wheel arches, and side steps, door handles, mirror caps, and window trims also finished in black.

Interestingly, the Landcruiser GR Sport is the most powerful model from Toyota’s Gazoo Racing on sale today.

Both flagship variants (and the entry-level GX) are only available with five seats. Those requiring seven seats will need to choose either the GXL, VX, or Sahara.

All LandCruiser 300 Series models come with an 80-litre main fuel tank, with a 30-litre sub-tank for a total of 110 litres of diesel. Fuel consumption is claimed at a combined 8.9 litres per 100 kilometres driven, while the Euro 5-compliant engine produces a combined 235g/km of CO2.

Towing capacity remains at 3500kg braked (750kg unbraked), while the LandCruiser range weighs in at between 2470kg and 2580kg.

Overall length is listed as 4980mm for most variants – the GR Sport is 4995mm long and the Sahara ZX is 5015mm long.

The GR Sport is also 10mm wider than the rest of the range at 1990mm, though a snorkel increases overall width to 2000mm on the GX. The total height across the range is 1950mm, and the wheelbase is 2850mm.

Wheel sizes vary from 17 inches on the LandCruiser GX up to 20 inches for the Sahara ZX.
