2022 Lexus LX600 Is the Luxury Land Cruiser We Deserve

October 14, 2021

The new generation Lexus LX600 is a luxury SUV based on the latest Toyota Land Cruiser LC300. It uses LC300’s V6 engine with 403 bhp and 650 Nm in combination with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The LX600 gets a raft of modern gadgetry like a Multi-Terrain Select system with six modes, business-class rear seats with a 48-degree recline, and more.

The new generation Toyota Land Cruiser was revealed in June this year and it was only a matter of time before the new-gen Lexus LX600 made an appearance. This is because the LX600 is based on Land Cruiser and is the flagship SUV in Lexus’ lineup. And only a few months after the new LC broke cover, Lexus has revealed the new generation LX600 SUV. And the similarities between the new Land Cruiser and LX600 are quite extensive. For example, the new Lexus SUV is now based on the new GA-F platform which is similar to Toyota’s GA-G platform. And this has made the new LX600 lighter by 200 kg. There’s also a more powerful engine on offer, taken from the new Land Cruiser LC300. With that being said, there are many differences between these two vehicles, especially in terms of the design and onboard gadgetry.

The all-new Lexus LX600 still has the boxy silhouette as before but there are several new additions. The fascia now sports a 3-D spindle grille with floating bars for an imposing road presence. The grille is so prominent that it may as well be the biggest radiator grille on a Lexus car. This grille is flanked by sleek LED headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs that lend a modern appeal to this SUV. The overall aesthetics are enhanced by the chiseled front bumper, prominent rear haunches, new LED tail lights with L-shaped LED signature, 22-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and rear skid plate.

The LX600 has a luxurious cabin that is very well appointed. The centre stage is taken by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that also serves as the Multi-Terrain Monitor (with four cameras) during off-road driving. There’s another seven-inch display for HVAC controls and choosing between different terrain modes.

Other features on this SUV include fingerprint-authentication push-start button, voice recognition, smartphone connectivity, built-in Wi-Fi, Mark Levinson sound system with 25 speakers, ambient lighting, electric sunroof, automatic AC, etc. The SUV also has a raft of advanced safety features, including collision warning, emergency steering assist, LTA (Lane Tracing Assist), dynamic radar cruise control, road sign assist, adaptive high-beam system, and more.

The Lexus LX600 takes luxury and comfort to a new level with the Executive trim that includes only two rear seats that can be reclined by 48-degrees. These seats feature concave headrests, seatbacks, and cushions for enhanced comfort and the special reading lights, audio system, and rear seat display further aim to offer a relaxing experience to the rear passengers. This makes it a rival to the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. And the rear control panel ensures that all the important adjustments are at the rear passengers’ disposal.

And in case you feel like taking this luxurious SUV on extreme terrains, then you can opt for the Offroad trim that adds three differential locks (front, centre and rear) and 18-inch tyres with a high flatness ratio. Unfortunately, this trim is reserved exclusively for Japan as of now.

The new Lexus LX600 has ditched the old 5.7-litre V8 engine for a new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol unit that makes 403 bhp and 650 Nm. Along with a new engine, the new LX600 also gets an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The SUV comes with a 4X4 drivetrain as standard along with. The new LX600 also has Multi-Terrain Select system with six modes — Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow, and Rock. The operating range of Multi-Terrain Select, which was previously limited to the low range (L4), has been extended to the high range (H4).
